We are a small business offering B&B accommodation in our home. We try to provide as much information as possible to prospective guests so that you can decide whether our facilities are suitable and comfortable for your needs.
Our Website
We want everyone to be able to use our website. You might have a better experience if you change the settings on your computer to suit your needs. The site has been built so that you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
- navigate most of the website using just a keyboard or using speech recognition software
- listen to most of the website using a screen reader
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
Booking and Pre-Arrival
You can check for availability by telephone, email and our online booking facility.
We are able to send reservation confirmation in large print format.
Our website has a lot of photographs of our rooms so that you can gain a better idea of our facilities. We can supply hard copies of any of the information contained on our website.
Information about routes to reach us can be supplied in various formats and from various parts of the UK.
We have mainline rail services which come into Carstairs, which is 3.5 miles from The Lint Mill. With advanced notice, we can arrange to collect and return our guests to the station. Timings of services from different destinations can be researched for you if requested.
Arrival by car is off a B road and down an unmetalled farm track. There is clear signage at the top of the track. Travel directions are sent in advance and we also use the What3Words location app. The track is kept in good order but inevitably has some lumps and bumps! There is a metal stock gate over the bridge which we leave open when we are expecting guests.
Car Parking
There is plenty of off-road parking and the parking is approximately 30m from the entrance to the house. You will be greeted on arrival, shown where to park (there is also a parking sign) and offered assistance with your luggage.
Approach to the House
The Lint Mill is an old traditional farm cottage. It is situated on a slope and the parking outside the house is on a slight incline.
The house is illuminated at night with outside lights at the front and outside the accommodation. You approach the house from the parking area over a gravel path and a grassed lawn area.
We give all guests a familiarisation tour of your accommodation on arrival. There is also a Visitors’ Information Book in the sitting room.
We are a non-smoking home. We operate a non-smoking policy throughout the property as part of our health and safety policy and to aid fire prevention.
Entrance
The conservatory entrance has a double door but is accessed via two stone steps. The flooring is vinyl. It has overhead lighting.
Sitting room
The flooring is carpet. There is a good contrast between wall and floor colours. There are table lamps, floor lamps and overhead lighting. There are feather and down sofas but also a table and upright dining chairs.
Bedroom
Our bedroom is spacious but it is on the first floor and is accessed via a spiral staircase. Regrettably, for this reason, the apartment is not suitable for wheelchair access. The flooring is cork tiles. There is a good contrast between wall and floor colours. There is a day bed as well as a king sized bed. There is a side chair with arms.
Hypoallergenic pillows and duvets are available on request.
Bathroom
The B&B room has ensuite shower facilities. There is a small step into the shower and the shower is accessed via a sliding door shower screen. The flooring is cork tiles.
Dining room-Green Conservatory
The dining room is accessed up two steps from the B&B sitting room and up another threshold step into the dining room. We do not play background music in the dining room. The flooring is terracotta tiles. There is a good contrast between wall and floor colours.
We are happy to cater for special diets or any particular dietary requirement you may have with advance notice.
Trained Assistance Dogs
We welcome trained assistance dogs. A water bowl can be provided on request and there are field areas where they can enjoy a break.
Emergency
From February 2022 all homes in Scotland had to be fitted with interlinking smoke and heat alarms. In addition carbon monoxide alarms were required where there is a carbon-fuelled appliance or flue. Our alarm system complies with the new legislation. We have emergency evacuation procedures for our guests. Our local A&E is in Wishaw, 30 minutes away. Full details for emergency procedures are available in the Visitors’ Information Book.
