Extraordinary electric storms overnight and monsoon rain. Of course the ground is so dry, it can’t absorb this volume of water quickly enough so now we have flooding to contend with.

The weather has started to break and we’ve had a brief but air clearing deluge of rain. Meanwhile, the Bagots and geese were content in this afternoon’s sunshine. But we’re all looking forward to a drop more rain. #heatwave #drought #herecomestherain #bagotgoats #geese

Just in from an hour lying on a blanket in our highest field watching the Perseid meteor shower. There was light cloud moving in and the extraordinary amber coloured full moon made visibility for seeing meteors less than perfect. Nonetheless, we were rewarded with some beautiful ‘shooting stars’. My iPhone could definitely not capture this experience but the spirit of it is here in this evocative painting by Lucy Campbell. #starrynight #stargazing #perseid #meteorshower #fullmoon

A rare outing for The Lint Mill residents today. We went to North Berwick, which is just 90 minutes away and took a boat trip to Bass Rock to see the world's largest colony of Northern gannets. It was spectacular. The colony has been badly hit by the outbreak of avian ‘flu as have many colonies of seabirds around Scotland and it will take years to fully understand the impact of the disease on the colony. Nonetheless, it was a privilege to see them raising their young (Gugas) at such close quarters. #gannet #bassrock #gugas #boattrip #hotsummer2022 #avianflu #conservation Scottish Seabird Centre

We haven’t been awash with eggs for ages but now the new hens are laying well so we have lots of yummy, deep yellow yolked organic eggs. #thelintmill #organic #happyhens #layers

Sometimes an iPhone is very inadequate! We heard the hissing sounds of the owlets again but it didn’t seem to be from the box. Then there was some clumsy clattering from the neighbouring ash tree and I managed to capture these two! They’ve fledged. #barnowl #owlets #fledgling #nocturnal The Barn Owl Trust

We planted this border a couple of years ago because I wanted the lovely giant scabious wafting outside the studio window. It’s beautiful. #herbatiousborder #scabious #roomwithaview #beefriendly
