Joanna, who owns and runs the gorgeous @joanna.fornsidefarmcottages with her husband Matt in the heart of the Lake District (we highly recommend a stay there), came on our ‘A Beginner’s Guide to Organic Smallholding’ earlier this month. We’re delighted to feature in their summer newsletter. Here’s what Joanna had to say about her experience:

“We are feeling encouraged and inspired after attending a course on Organic Smallholding in the rolling countryside of Scotland’s Southern Uplands. Colin and Debby, who own and run The Lint Mill, shared their wealth of knowledge during a wonderful day on their 13 acre smallholding. Whilst learning to hand-milk a goat was Joanna's highlight, we are now digesting their input on all aspects of organic smallholding: managing grasslands and encouraging biodiversity, natural methods of pest control in the kitchen garden, recent thinking on vegetable crop rotation, further suggestions on pig-keeping and the opportunity to meet several rare breeds of sheep and goats. Fascinated by the possibilities of regenerative agriculture, both at smallholding scale and on a vast scale for reversing climate change, we are busy finding out more (... for example, check out Kiss the Ground on Netflix).

The course has invigorated us hugely in our slow and steady journey towards achieving something like the idyll that Debby and Colin have lovingly created. Their philosophy is all about relationships: with the land and all its inhabitants, with their guests (with whom they share exceptional home-grown home-cooked meals) and with the wider ecosystem. If you’re intrigued, do explore their website and consider signing up for a course, read their blog, and/or book a stay in their delightful B&B.”
The image is of Fornside Farm-it really is the most stunning location.

There’s a huge buzz about the Nepeta on the path to the cottage garden. The bees are loving it. (The crunching is me filming on the gravel!). @sawdaystravel #pollinators #beefriendly #buzzing #cottagegarden
