Visiting with Victoria

Our friends Yvonne and Steve arrived from Cheshire today with their lovely Gordon Setter Ginny.

Yvonne, in true domestic goddess style, had brought with her a deconstructed, home-baked Victoria sponge cake which she expertly assembled in our kitchen on arrival.

We enjoyed generous slices of the delicious cake with our pot of tea while we chatted and caught up with each other’s news. Meanwhile, Ginny was taking a somewhat enthusiastic interest in our free-range hens!

I’m with Henry James when he declares that, ‘There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony of afternoon tea,’ an occasion  only enhanced by old friendship and good cake!

I’m sure ‘Victoria’ will make a repeat appearance. Every booking at The Lint Mill comes with complementary afternoon tea and we have quite a cake repertoire.
